“So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well, for on account of him many of the Jews were going over to Jesus and believing in him.–John 12:10-11
What does your life say about Jesus? Not what you say, but what your life reveals. Do others believe in Jesus because of you…because of me? I hope so.
A Life That Points to Jesus
I’ve heard this passage from the Gospel of John countless times, yet something surprised me this time. I had forgotten that the chief priests wanted Lazarus dead, too.
Why? Because his life was a living testimony to the power of Jesus.
A Question Worth Asking
Is my life a living testimony to the power of Jesus? You and I may not have been physically resurrected and walked out of a tomb, but we still have a story to tell.
Recognizing His Work in our Story
Does your life tell a story of Jesus at work in you, or in those around you? How has your life changed because of Him?
Perhaps you have experienced a miracle, seen one, or heard of one.
This is the work of the Lord.
Maybe you have been healed from anxiety, depression, or fear.
Or you’ve become more patient, more peaceful, more compassionate.
This is the work of the Lord.
Have your relationships improved, been mended, or begun to thrive?
This is the work of the Lord.
The Quiet Work of Jesus
Sometimes, His work is more subtle. However, it is still real.
You pause before reacting to someone instead of snapping.
This is the work of the Lord.
A name comes to mind, and you spend time praying for them.
This is the work of the Lord.
You forgive someone… not all at once, but little by little.
This is the work of the Lord.
You become aware of God throughout your day, in ordinary moments.
This is the work of the Lord.
More to consider: The subtle work of the Lord
You find yourself turning to Him first not last.
A Scripture lingers with you longer than it used to.
You feel less need to prove yourself or be affirmed by the world
You choose honesty when it would be easier to hide.
You stop replaying old wounds.
It becomes less about obligation and more about love as your heart changes.
Do We Share the Story?
Do you tell others?
If our lives aren’t telling the story of what Jesus has done, or is doing within us, then what is the point of evangelization? What are we proclaiming?
The Story That Changes Everything
This week, we will hear and experience the greatest story ever told: the Passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- The story that changed history.
- The story that changes hearts.
- The story that changes how our own story ends, not in death, but in eternal life.
Sometimes the Lord’s work is dramatic, and sometimes it isn’t. Often it is the quiet transformation of a heart that becomes more patient, more peaceful, more free. Less reactive. More trusting. Less fearful. And little by little, we begin to look more like Jesus today than yesterday.
So the question remains:
Will they believe because of you…
And because of me?
