Seasons Come and Go

February 26, 2025

The nest is almost complete. The endless hours of gathering, weaving, and toiling will result in a comfy and secure home for the momma’s offspring.

As the cycle goes on, the eggs will be laid, and the baby birds will hatch, grow, and mature. They will spread their wings, test short flight patterns nearby, and eventually fly away. One day, in the not-too-distant future, the baby birds will repeat the pattern of the previous generation. The momma bird will also vacate the nest, and the shelter that was called home will be forgotten. Its function and purpose have been fulfilled, and the season has been completed.

Seasons come and go, offering times of enjoyment to embrace, inconveniences and struggles to endure, and pain and suffering that we wish would disappear. There is a time for something new, a time to flourish, and a time to wind down.

The coming and going

Nature displays that seasons are cyclical, and whether it is visible or not, growth happens. In whatever season you might find yourself, we are each growing. It may not be easy to see amid the circumstances; but there is growth through creativity, in bringing forth new life, in the trials and challenges and even in pain and suffering. Even in the darkest winters nights, we cannot forget that spring is coming, and that something new will emerge. We will be different from when we entered a season to when we leave a season, and that difference is growth.

The nest may be being built, or it may hold chicks, or it may be empty, but the cycle continues. Life unfolds in seasons, each a testament to the cadence of growth, change, and renewal. Just as the empty nest whispers of a season ending, the birds taking flight remind us that something new is awaiting discovery.

Ecclesiastes 3:1

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens…”
