Receiving Gifts

February 25, 2025

Who doesn’t love receiving gifts? I love getting gifts, especially the unexpected ones—wrapped in thought, time, and love.

I have the most challenging time picking out gifts under pressure, like the kind for upcoming birthdays or Christmas, when I’ve procrastinated and now have less than a few days to find the perfect gift. But when I’m out and about and notice something that makes me think of a loved one, then it’s so easy. Those are the best finds; they are motivated by thoughtfulness and love.

Taking time to find pretty wrapping paper and just the right moment to give the gift fills me with excitement, hoping the gift will bless my friend or loved one and tell them that they are never far from my heart and mind.

God gives the best gifts. He always thinks of us and loves us beyond our understanding. He has good gifts for us because He is a good God.

Abundance and God’s gifts are synonymous. Gifts like peace in the storm, wisdom and discernment in decision-making, grace to overcome sin, and so on are just a few of the countless ways God blesses us with gifts.

But what if we overlook the gift or forget about it? What if we leave it wrapped on the kitchen counter, in our car, or by the front door and never open it? Gifts cease to be gifts if left unopened. Receiving gifts becomes an enormous blessing when we open them and use them.

Are there some gifts you can think of that need opening?
