The birds sings, the monkeys howl, the breeze blows, and the waves crash. I notice the sounds of a pre-dawn morning in Costa Rica. I’m up early listening to the sounds of life awakening. It is so distinct from anything I hear back home in Atlanta. There are dozens of different varieties of birds singing, too many discern the different songs. They each have a distinct sound, a song, a caw, a coo, a squawk, all calls to one another.

In the back drop high tide has almost arrived the water coming ashore is frequently interrupted by the occasional crashing wave on the beach. The Howler monkeys must be feeding and content as they howl on their way to another destination. They tend run in groups or perhaps what appears to be a family, with little monkeys in tow leaping across the tree line.

New sounds seem more noticeable than the ones we grow accustomed to. With each sound, we have an opportunity to notice the sounds of nature. Creation is always speaking, I just don’t always notice as familiar sounds become murmurs in the distance. And yet, each day we have an opportunity to notice-to notice that creation was made for us to enjoy, to hear, to see, to smell and to touch. Noticing can remind us that God is in fact near for His creation was reminds us that He made it for our enjoyment.
