It’s getting a bit harder to write, it seems. I am not sure why. Different ideas flash across my mind, yet none provide a path to writing. There are ten days left in Lent, plus two Sundays. Odd, how a journey can seem so long and never-ending. Then, all of a sudden you are quickly approaching the finish line. I have never run a marathon, but it must be like that. Pace is key.
If you run too fast out of the gate, burn out will happen long before the finish. You have to measure output over time and find the right combination. It takes practice.
My desert time has become rhythmic. I sit, pray, wait, listen and learn. Some mornings, I want to rush the process and arrive at learning without walking the previous steps. That’s my impulsivity, I suppose.
Jesus is never impulsive. His pace is steady and displays a certain cadence, illustrating the peace within. I would like that kind of steady pace and undisturbed peace.
When I was a child and walked with my mom or dad, I remember watching their gait and syncing my step to theirs. When they took as step, I would take a step. This morning, I would like to sync my steps to Jesus. This will take focus.
As I watch Jesus’ gait, I realize this is going to take more than focus; it will also take practice. I feel like someone learning to dance, slightly out of step. I lock arms with Jesus. That makes it a little easier to keep pace. He smiles and says, “the closer I am the easier it will be.”

Yes! It does take focus and practice. And you are so right- the closer we are to Jesus, the more natural walking with Him will become, I think. You are a very good writer 🙂
Brings to mind John laying his head on Jesus’ heart. His heartbeat…rhythmic, like His cadence. “The closer I am, the easier it will be.”
