Christmas Is Here—And God Is Nearer Still

December 23, 2025
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

By the time Christmas arrives, many of us are tired.

The weeks leading up to this holy day are filled with many good things—family gatherings, traditions, preparations, late nights, expectations—but even good things can leave us weary. We arrive on Christmas morning carrying more than wrapped gifts. We carry longings, griefs, unanswered prayers, and fragile hopes.

And into that exact reality, God steps in.

Jesus enters the world not in a rush and not with fanfare, but in the hush of the night where stillness can be heard and the stars keep watch. He is born into simplicity, into vulnerability, into the ordinary rhythms of human life. God does not wait for the world to be ready. He enters it as it is.

This is the mystery of Christmas: God draws near to each one of us not once we have it all together, not once we’ve reached a certain destination or goal, but while we are still figuring life out.

God With Us—Right Where We Are

The name Emmanuel—God with us—is not poetic language reserved for church hymns or the Advent season. It is a promise God gives us.

God is with us:
• when the house is loud and full
• when the chair at the table is empty
• when joy comes easily
• when joy feels absent
• when faith feels strong
• when faith feels thin
• when hope is plentiful
• when hope is dwindling

Nothing disqualifies us from His presence—not exhaustion, not doubt, not grief, not unfinished stories, nor messy ones we aren’t proud of.

Christmas reminds us that God chose nearness. He decided to dwell among us, not above us.

A Gentle Invitation

Today does not ask us to do more. It asks us to open our hearts and receive.

To pause, even briefly.
To breathe.
To notice the quiet holiness woven into the day.

Maybe it’s the twinkling lights on the tree.
A Christmas carol playing softly in the background.
A moment of gratitude that surprises you.
An unexpected visit from an old friend.

These are not small things. This is where the holy meets the ordinary.

If your Christmas feels full, may you notice God in the laughter.
If your Christmas feels heavy, may you trust God is still holding you.
If your Christmas feels quiet, may you discover that God often speaks loudest in the silence.

A Christmas Blessing

May you rest in the truth that you are not alone.
May you trust that God meets you exactly where you are.
May you carry the light of this day with you into the days ahead—gently and faithfully.

Because Christmas is more than a moment we celebrate. It is a presence we carry.

Emmanuel. God is with us. Always.

Merry Christmas
