The God Who Knows You

We Are His And He Is Ours

Life has a way of clouding our memory of God’s attributes, leaving us forgetful of who He really is. This is certainly true for me; I am prone to forget. This week, I am contemplating the names of God, and He has many. Each one teaches us about His nature, character, and personality. Intellectualizing God’s names is not the same as calling upon them in prayer. Praying these names reminds us that He is all-knowing, all-powerful, and ever-present. Adonai created us so we would be His, and He would be ours.

When we pray His names, we remember who God is and that He longs to be with us in every circumstance.

God In Our Circumstances

  • When we lack—Yahweh Jireh, our Provider
  • When we hurt—Yahweh Rapha, our Healer
  • When we fear—Yahweh Nissi, our Protector
  • When we are anxious—Yahweh Shalom, our Peace
  • When we are confused—Yahweh Rohi, our Shepherd
  • When in battle—Yahweh Magen, our Shield
  • When attacked–Yahweh Sabaoth, our Defender

Who He Is Always

  • He is Elohim—the God who created and sustains you
  • He is El Roi—the God who sees you
  • He is Adonai— the One who longs for a relationship with you
  • He is Emmanuel—the God who is always with you
  • He is Elohim Shomri–the God who protects you.

Whatever you are going through, doubting, or struggling with, He is not only your shelter in the storm—He is the One who stills it. He not only protects you in the battle—He is your shield. He is the Good Shepherd who will lead you to green pastures to rest and still waters that restore. He is your Shalom Peace in this world, because perfect love holds nothing back. When you love unconditionally, there is nothing you won’t give. God’s love is the same—He will do whatever it takes for you.

Our Strong Tower

Dear friend, you are loved unconditionally by Abba, our Father, who knows you better than anyone; He desires the very best for each of us and will never leave our side. As Proverbs 18:10 reminds us, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe.” (NRSVCE)

What name will you be praying this week?

  1. What a beautiful post, Leslie. I do love seeing all the ancient Names of Good reminding us of His powerful love
for us no matter our circumstances, no matter our fears. In these days of sorrow and yet joy it is so well to cling
to Him for whom all is possible! Amen and Alleluia!
